Removal of Foreign Body
Removal of foreign body from ear canal, includes ear examination.
Service Description
The term foreign body includes anything that may be sitting in the ear canal that doesn't normally reside there. It can include the tips of hearing aid devices; beads; cotton wool; ear bud tips and small insects amongst others. Do not attempt to remove a foreign body yourself - this can damage or cause injury to the ear canal or to the ear-drum (tympanic membrane) If you have severe pain, bleeding, a discharge or complete & sudden hearing loss - you should attend the emergency department in your local area as soon as possible. If our practitioner is unable to remove the foreign body at your appointment, you will only be charged the ear examination fee of £15. Do NOT put anything in your ear prior to attending this appointment. We can NOT see children under the age of 16 for removal of a foreign body. In this instance, your child should be taken to your local urgent treatment centre or emergency department for appropriate treatment.
