This is an outer ear infection and can cause inflammation, itching and pain to the ear canal. The inflammation/infection does not go past the eardrum. It usually affects just one ear. It tends to clear up within a week with application of antibiotic/anti-inflammatory ear drops. It is called ‘Swimmer’s Ear’ because it is more common in regular swimmers. Read more about it here with tips and advice for avoiding otitis externa.
